Summer Camp

Flying serpents, fierce monsters, gentle protectors - dragons have been showing up in myths and stories around the world for millennia. We'll get in touch with our own inner dragons (and learn to use our strength for good!) with art, games, stories, and crafts. Betsy Arant, MSD Early Childhood After School Instructor, will lead this camp. Cost: $315/$360/$405

Combining food preparation with literature, this camp will explore well-loved tales that feature cooking elements. We’ll read Dragons Love Tacos and make homemade tortillas, Pancakes for Breakfast and make pancakes and fresh squeezed orange juice and more! Note: this camp will use dairy, eggs, and flour. Get ready for an exciting, full-day creative safari at our Wild Kingdom Art Camp. This summer experience is designed for young artists who love animals, discovery, and getting a bit messy. We will spend the day learning about fascinating creatures from around the globe, exploring their diverse habitats, and translating that inspiration into multi-medium works of art. Our day will be structured around different animal groups and art techniques. Lindsey Hansen, MSD Art teacher, will lead this camp. Cost: $315

In this camp, participants will engage in fun, interactive, developmentally appropriate, and accessible discussions and activities focused on self and family identities and pride, justice, intersectionality, and allyship. Activities will include creating a play or community outreach project and a Drag Storytime. Participants will be encouraged to share their voice, passions, and lived experiences with their communities. Rainbow Summer Camp is an inclusive and affirming space to BE WHO YOU ARE! All children are affirmed in Rainbow Summer Camp, including LGBTQ+ and gender diverse children of any race, country of origin, culture, and ability. Find the joy in making new things from old things! In this camp, children can take pride in caring for planet Earth by considering the 3 Rs: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Charlotte Saylor, MSD Early Childhood After School instructor, will lead this camp. Cost: $395/$450/$510

Appreciate the many patterns, textures, and usefulness of the plant kingdom? Come along to make art projects, homemade teas, and learn all about the many things humans use plants to create. Catherine Froelich, MSD Early Childhood Teacher, will lead this camp. Cost: $265/$395

Feathered Friends campers will investigate feathers, eggs, nests, flight, bird song, and anatomy. We will craft, play, and best of all, we will bird! Birding is a hobby for anybody and for everybody! Participants will learn how to use binoculars, scopes, and field guides. They will learn to bird by sight and by ear. Our week together will be playful, active, and much of our time will be spent outdoors, exploring the school campus and natural areas. The Ultimate Stamping and Printmaking Camp! Get ready to Draw, Roll, Press, and Create in this electrifying Art camp dedicated to the fun and fascinating world of stamping and printmaking! This camp is a whirlwind of creative action, perfect for artists of all levels, looking to master new techniques. We'll trade in our paintbrushes for the brayer and explore how to make stunning repeatable art across many different subjects. Projects will include relief printing, monotype, Gelli plate printing, nature prints, and more.  Campers will leave with a portfolio full of dynamic, multi-layered prints and the skills to keep pressing play on your printmaking adventures! Flowers are so much more than pretty decorations - flowers feed pollinators, create fruit, send messages, and play important roles in many cultural traditions. We will grow flowers, make art with flowers, and even use flowers to make food and drinks! Betsy Arant, MSD Early Childhood After School Instructor, will lead this camp. Cost: $395/$450/$510

Experience a super fun adventure where our little engineers learn all about flying things! We'll discover how planes lift off the ground and why things zoom through the air. You'll get to play with wind, feel the air push and pull, and see how it helps things fly. We'll use our hands to design and build our very own parachutes, make cool rockets, discover how wings work, and even create special model planes to take home! We'll work together, think big, and get creative as we explore the exciting world of things that fly! Shelby Jones, lead STEM for Kids instructor, will lead this camp. Cost: $335-$475

Have you ever thought about citizenship? How a person is a person, no matter how small? Each of us can start a chain of change that makes our world a better place. We have a world of possibilities when we are thinking through how to take care of our community. In this camp, we will explore service-based activities and create our own projects based off of the positivity we want to spread in our neighborhood! Campers will learn how to begin and end a variety of fiber arts projects using crochet, knitting, weaving, and hand sewing, ending with a project that incorporates several of the techniques they have learned. This adventure is led by Pamela and Katie, MSD Summer Camp Staff, both of whom have lots of experience in fiber arts and enjoy sharing techniques and ideas with children. Cost: $265

Spiders and scorpions and bats, oh my! Some insects and animals get a bad rap, but we know that every one plays an important role in the ecosystem. We'll learn about the fascinating (but often unappreciated!) lives of rodents, reptiles, insects, and more. Betsy Arant, MSD Early Childhood After School Instructor, will lead this camp. Join us for some picnic fun! In this camp, children will learn which items to bring when going on a picnic (basket, picnic table cloth, cooler, food, drinks), how to pack for and set up a picnic, and what foods one might bring to enjoy at the picnic, all in an effort to host their very own picnic on MSD’s shady playground. Francena Wallace, MSD Summer Camp Instructor, will lead this camp. Cost: $265/$395

Come learn or enhance both machine and hand sewing techniques while using creativity and imagination. We will sew our own tote bags as we learn and develop the skills of machine sewing. We will design decorative hand sewn elements to make it our own! Campers will also choose a project using repurposed clothing items and give old garments new life as they practice the skills they have acquired. Pamela, MSD Summer Camp Staff, is passionate about sewing and sharing the enjoyment she’s found in her many creative pursuits using fabrics both new and found! Cost: $395

Take a thrilling trip through time and color at our Elementary Art History Summer Camp! This adventure is perfect for young artists eager to explore the greatest movements and masterpieces in the world of art. We will journey from ancient cave paintings to contemporary installations, becoming inspired by the innovative techniques and captivating stories of famous and lesser-known artists alike! Each day, campers will step into the shoes of different artists, using a variety of mediums to recreate, reinterpret, and invent their own masterpieces. Experimenting with painting, mixed media, sculpture, oil pastel, and more; this camp is a fantastic way for young people to gain confidence in using different materials while building a foundational appreciation for the rich history and cultural significance of art. Ever wonder where the water in your faucet comes from? Where does your trash go once the truck takes it away? How do bus drivers know where to go? Dive into the mysterious world under the sea! The ocean is home to most of life on earth, with marine species outnumbering land species. Join us for a week of scientific inquiry and play! Climate Sleuths will consider the natural buffers and solutions to a changing climate and will be empowered to make conscious choices in their own lives while cultivating a sense of wonder about the natural world. This camp will include scientific experimentation, physical activities both indoors and out, crafts and free time for play and friendship building. Get ready to blast off on an artistic adventure that's out of this world! Our Cosmic Creations Art Camp is a journey through the wonder and beauty of our galaxy and solar system. Perfect for young astronauts and artists alike, this camp will ignite imaginations as we explore the universe through vibrant colors, unique textures, and exciting art techniques. Each day, we’ll delve into a new corner of the cosmos, learning fascinating facts about planets, stars, nebulae, and more, all while creating stunning, space-inspired masterpieces! This camp is all about potatoes! Children will learn about this very versatile vegetable through food prep, art, stories, and other activities. This will give children an opportunity to practice food preparation using potatoes. There will also be an emphasis on crafting with potatoes! Our drama camp invites young performers to explore the exciting world of theater through imagination, movement, and creativity. Students will learn acting basics, character building, expressive voice work, and simple staging techniques—all through fun games, teamwork activities, and mini-scenes. Throughout the week, campers will rehearse a short performance that showcases their skills in storytelling, collaboration, and confidence on stage. No experience needed—just enthusiasm and a willingness to play, create, and shine! MSD’s Music Teacher, Alton Tisino, will lead this camp. Cost: $395

Get ready to wedge, roll, and sculpt in our immersive, full-day Clay Masters Camp. This camp is a dedicated exploration of all things clay, perfect for young artists who love hands-on creativity and want to create truly special pieces they can cherish for years to come. We will focus on building a strong foundation in ceramics through fun, accessible projects, guiding campers from raw clay to a finished, glossy work of art. Throughout the week, artists will master essential techniques from pinch pots, to coil creations, slab building, and finaling glazing. In Vault Theatre's Play On!, young artists will improvise, create, and perform as they journey through fantastic adventures and build their own theatrical worlds. Through theatre games, collaborative storytelling, and bold scene work, campers will embody original characters, tackle exciting challenges, and power up their creativity. Each day is a new quest filled with opportunities to explore, invent, and play your part. By the end of the week, campers will bring their unique stories to life in an original performance that showcases their imagination, courage, and confidence. Welcome to a week of herbology, where we unlock the magical properties of otherwise mundane plants! Campers will explore the uses of plants in medicine and food. We’ll be planting seeds, tending and identifying plants, concocting tinctures and teas, and baking with spices and crafting.
