Enrichments

We welcome MSD's Elementary students (1st-6th graders) to join Rainbow Club! The Rainbow Club provides students with a safe and supportive place to meet to discuss and explore topics like self identity (including gender identity and expression, race, abilities, and diverse family representation), recognizing similarities and differences, recognizing unfairness, and developing advocacy skills to speak up for themselves, peers, and others. The Rainbow Club uses developmentally appropriate and accessible activities to support discussions around justice, intersectionality, and allyship while supporting students sharing their voice, passions, and lived experiences with their communities. MSD's Rainbow Club will be guided by MSD staff.

This enrichment class is available for 1st-6th graders on one Monday a month from 3-4:30pm. 

Rainbow club is free and open to all MSD and local Elementary students.

T³LAB is a youth basketball instructional organization for school age children at all skill levels. The class will focus on Basketball I.Q., Fundamentals & Skill Development through interchangeable drills and games to challenge the individual. The clinics will have fun drills and innovative ways to teach fundamental skills for the beginner and challenge the more experienced player allowing continuous growth. T³LAB is a great opportunity to maintain or start a healthy & active lifestyle for those who are looking to get active and develop a foundation to getting fit in a fun, structured, and supportive environment. We also focus on coordination, agility, leadership, confidence, and positive sportsmanship.

This enrichment class is available for Early Childhood on Mondays from 3-3:45pm

Soccer Shots is specially designed for young children as it is a high-energy program introducing them to fundamental soccer principles, such as using your feet, dribbling, and the basic rules of the game. Through fun games, songs, and positive reinforcement, children will begin to experience the joy of playing soccer and being active.

This enrichment class is available for Early Childhood students on Tuesdays. There are two sessions scheduled this season: 3-4pm and 4:15-5:15pm. 

*New to Soccer Shots children should sign up for the 3-4pm session, while returning children should choose the 4:15-5:15pm session*

The cost is $300 for 12 classes.

Join MSD Art Teacher, Janine, in this fun, exciting, and challenging Art Enrichment class. Work with familiar art materials in unique and advanced ways. Lessons will focus on watercolor painting, drawing, 3D paper manipulation, pottery, and more. This is a chance to delve deeper into techniques and processes taught in weekly art classes with ample time for creative exploration. If your child loves to draw, paint, and construct, this is the class for them! 

This enrichment class is available for Lower Elementary (1st-3rd grade) on Tuesdays from 3:00-4:30pm. 

The cost is $450 for 12 classes.

The feats of mankind in the world of aerospace are nothing but awe-inspiring - the Beluga transporter, the supersonic jets, Armstrong's moon landing and the well-choreographed descent of Curiosity on Mars, to name a few. As the next frontier of asteroid mining and space travel unravels, let's understand what it takes to get off the ground and fly. This program delves into the foundations of aerospace technologies. Participants face off with all the mysteries of space, planets, and stars. Participants create planet models, design taternaut TM space suits, and enjoy hands-on rocketry. 

This enrichment class is available for Early Childhood/Kindergarten on Wednesdays from 3:15-4:00pm. Registered children will be picked up from their classrooms at 3pm, eat their afternoon snack, and then begin the program.

The cost is $300 for 12 classes.

A classic story important to us in Elementary is Stone Soup. The community comes together and realizes that less can become more when we all pitch in. At the center of the Stone Soup Enrichment will be the belief that we have a world of possibilities when it comes to helping each other. This service-oriented enrichment program will consist of lessons about scarcity and need within our community, followed up by activities that spread our kindness into the world. We will learn about urban farming and community gardens, the free libraries and food pantries in our neighborhood, and how kids can become involved in mutual aid. MSD’s Stone Soup Club will be headed by Elim Lee, our Upper Elementary Assistant Teacher. 

This enrichment class is available for Elementary children (1st-6th grade) on Wednesdays from 3:15-4:15pm. 

The cost is $300 for 12 classes.

Come sing, dance, and play with us! Our engaging class environment includes singing, movement, stories, finger plays, and musical games. It is a lively and happy time as we learn and grow together! Sweet Songs features a whole-child educational approach that focuses on essential school-readiness skills like active listening, social skills, turn-taking, sharing, and self-control, while fostering creative expression and confidence. Children will learn musical terms, strengthen steady beat and pitch recognition, as well as focus on language, literacy, and math skills.

This enrichment class is available for Early Childhood/Kindergarten on Thursdays from 3:15-4:00pm. Registered children will be picked up from their classrooms at 3pm, eat their afternoon snack, and then begin the program.

The cost is $250 for 10 classes.

Citizen Naturalists is designed to get students outdoors, exploring the campus’ natural environment and observing the plant and animal species we discover. It is both educational and physical, and will expand students’ understanding of science, nature, and their personal place in the world. We will focus especially on the relationships between living species, how these living things impact their environment, and our human relationship with it all. Students will join Charlotte Saylor of Dragonfly Nature Programs LLC, to study the natural environment on campus. Most of our experiences will be outdoors, rain or shine, heat or cold. Because nature directs our weekly focus, each class will vary while building on past experiences. Former program participants and new students are both welcome!

This enrichment class is available for Elementary (1st-6th grade) on Thursdays from 3:00-4:30pm.

In this Mechanical Engineering adventure, participants step into the world of an amusement park! Caution: rides design in progress using friction, spinning, and magnets. The thrilling program is sure to get everyone moving. Children get hands-on, experience 4C skills of Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, and Creativity with engineering design challenges. Activities may include: Zipline Engineering Design, Roller Coaster Ride Design, Ferris Wheel Rolling, and more.

This enrichment class is available for Elementary (1st-6th grade) on Fridays from 3:00-4:00pm. 

The cost is $310 for 11 classes.

Shihhan Seyfried is offering piano lessons to children ages 4 years-6th grade and clarinet lessons to children 3rd grade-6th grade. Shihhan is an active performer and educator. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Performance degree from Aletheia University in Taiwan and a Master of Music Performance from UNCG. She is a dynamic teacher who has the ability to teach a wide range of learners with diverse backgrounds, abilities, and goals.  With a commitment to helping each reach their potential, Shihhan has developed a variety of strategies to engage, inspire, and communicate with young musicians. Music books will be recommended based on the child’s level and ability and are not included in the course fee. Clarinets will not be provided, but stores to rent or purchase an instrument will be recommended upon request. Students will also have the chance to participate in a recital at the end of the semester.

These half-hour lessons are available for 4 year olds - 6th grade on Mondays (3-5pm), Wednesdays and Fridays (3-6pm). 

The cost is $480 for Mondays and Wednesdays (12 lessons) and $440 for Fridays (11 lessons).

Discover the joy of music with Jeb's beginning guitar/ukulele lessons for Elementary students! Half hour lessons will guide students through the basics of the instrument, picking melodies, understanding rhythm, and strumming chords. Jeb's approach involves discovering the songs your child already loves and teaching them how to play those tunes on the instrument that best suits their age. By connecting with their favorite music, learning becomes engaging and exciting.

Through these fun and interactive sessions, students will not only learn the building blocks of music and guitar/ukulele playing, but they will also learn to play the songs that resonate with them. It's the perfect recipe for building a solid musical foundation while nurturing their passion for music. Jeb is one of MSD's music specialists at the Elementary level.

This enrichment class is available for Elementary (1st-6th grade). The half-hour lessons are individually scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:10-5:25pm.

The cost is $350 per lesson for 10 classes.
