Extended Care
Every family has its own schedule, and Montessori School of Durham offers Before School Care for early risers and a variety of After School days and pick-up times. We also offer drop-in care for occasional needs. Children enjoy a home-like, electronics-free environment with both indoor and outdoor play time.
The mission of MSD’s Extended Care Programs is to enrich the lives of children beyond the classroom through safe and supportive Montessori-inspired environments.
Before School Care
Children ages 3 months through 12 years can enroll in Before School Care, offering supervision as early as 7:45 am. Children enjoy free play until they are begin their day with their class. On rainy or very cold days, students will play inside in one of the classrooms. Care is provided in the Infant classroom for children enrolled in the Infant program; on the Toddler playground or classroom for children enrolled in a Toddler level; and on the After School playground for Early Childhood and Elementary students.
For those families not enrolled as daily participants in Before School Care, drop-in care is available for the occasional day when you need to arrive before the normal starting time, as space permits. Advance notice is required for Toddlers only. Please contact the office (info@msdurham.org)
The cost of Before School Care enrollment is $720/year ($430 for 3-day toddler students), payable over 10 months. For occasional drop-in care, the fee is $5.00/day.
After School Care
MSD is pleased to offer quality After-School care to our families for children in Early Childhood through 6th grade. (For information about care after noon for Toddlers, please explore our Toddler page.) In this home-like, electronics-free environment, students enjoy indoor and outdoor play time, and an opportunity to practice the social aspects of their Montessori education in after-school time.
The program includes lunch and snack times, play, quiet rest, and creative activities in different rooms. We have space for special enrichment classes, as well as a quiet place for older students to read and engage in extended projects. With a full kitchen and beautiful dedicated playground, going to After School continues to be very popular among all ages.
There are a variety of after-school days and pick-up times to choose from in order to fit your family’s schedule. Drop-In Care is available for occasional needs as space permits. MSD also offers No-School Camp on Teacher Workdays, Parent-Teacher conference days, Orientation Week, and Spring break.
MSD is pleased to offer all students Early Childhood age and older After School Care until 6:00pm.

Fees for After School Care range from $960-$4200 annually, depending on number of hours per day and number of days per week. For specific fee information, please contact us at 919.489.9045.
Drop In Care
For times of unforeseen childcare needs or on an occasional basis, any MSD student in Early Childhood through 6th grade may use Drop-In Care in the after-school program, space permitting. Drop-In Care must be scheduled at least 15 minutes in advance. There is a one hour minimum, and after one hour, care is billed in 15 minute increments.
Special package rates for Drop-In Care are available for Enrichment students not enrolled in the after-school program. This option provides an escort from MSD to After School at the end of the school day and care before and/or after the Enrichment class.
Drop In Care is also available before school for any MSD student space permitting, beginning at 7:45 a.m. See "Drop In Care" above for more information.
School's Out Camp
School's Out camp is offered to all MSD students (except Toddlers) on most Teacher Workdays, Parent-Teacher Conference days, and Spring Break. Fees for School's Out Camps are not included with tuition; parents must register separately for care on these days. No drop-in care is available on these days.
