Toddler Summer Program

Toddler Summer Program Q&A:

The Toddler Summer Program is for currently enrolled toddlers who have not turned 3 by 6/1. If we have remaining spaces available after the Toddler Summer Program enrollment period, we will offer contracts for this program on a rolling basis to families who are enrolling in the All-Day Toddler class for the following year.

Note the difference in Toddler Summer Program, which is for our Toddlers who have not turned 3 by 6/1,  and Summer Camp, which is for children who have turned 3 by 6/1, and is held in our After School facility.

Tina Margas, our 5-day Morning Only Toddler Class Lead Teacher will be the Summer Program Teacher.

What weeks will the Toddler Summer Program be offered?

The Toddler Summer Program runs June 10th through August 9th, operating for 8 weeks.  The program will be closed the week of June 3rd and the week of July 1st. If your child is enrolled in the Toddler Summer Program but has turned 3 by August 12th, and you need care for the week of August 12th, please refer to the last Q&A.

What are the hours of operation for the Toddler Summer Program?

The program will run 5 days/week.  The start time will be the same as the regular academic year at 9am with pick up options at noon, 3pm, 4pm and 5:30pm.  Before School Care is available and begins at 8am.

Who is eligible for the Toddler Summer Program?

All currently enrolled Toddlers who have not turned 3 by June 1st are eligible. Contracts for the Toddler Summer Program will then be offered to newly admitted (for the 2019-20 school year) all-day toddlers, if there are remaining spaces available and if the newly admitted child will be turning 2 by September 1st.

How many spots are available in the Toddler Summer Program?

There are 12 spots available.

What will the Toddler Summer Program offer?

The Summer Program will be consistent with the Montessori class experience featuring the same schedule and curriculum as the academic year.  The student/staff ratios will remain the same at 6:1.

If my child is 3 years old will they attend the MSD Summer Camp instead of the Toddler Summer Program?

Yes, if your child has turned 3 by June 1st he/she would attend our Summer Camp, which is held at our After School facility and run by our Director of Auxiliary Programs, Griet Van Miegroet.   Summer Camp is offered from June 10th through August 16th, but closed the week of July 1st. Summer Camp begins at 9am and pick up options are noon, 3pm and 5:30.  Before School care is available for an additional cost beginning at 8am.

Parents register for Summer Camp by the week (each weekly camp has a different theme)

through the UltraCamp link on our website beginning January 30th, and it is here that you may see the weekly option.  You may access the UltraCamp registration page by going to our website, choose Parents then Parent Portal and follow directions.  UltraCamp is a third party camp enrollment management site, which requires you to set up an account and pay an one-time registration fee to UltraCamp in the amount of $6. Once established, your account will also be used for No-School Care days and Enrichment sign-ups when your child is in Early Childhood.  The Summer Camp spots fill quickly so if you know for sure that you will need these weeks you should register as soon as possible after January 30th.

The child/instructor ratio for Summer Camp is the same as our Early Childhood ratio, which is 11:1. Any questions concerning it may be directed to Griet at griet@msdurham.org or by calling her at the office after 10am.

Do I have the option of enrolling my child in the Toddler Summer Program for a portion of the summer and then a portion of the summer in the MSD Summer Camp program?

No.  Due to Staff contracts, once enrolled in the Toddler Summer Program, we cannot switch students between the two programs in the middle of the enrollment period.  If, however, you need care during the week of August 12th when the Toddler Summer Program is not offered, and your child has turned 3 by August 12th, you may enroll them in our Summer Camp, which is

held in our After School facility.  See last Q&A for more information on how to enroll for this week.

Can I enroll my toddler in the Toddler Summer Program for only a portion of the summer?

Priority will be given to those who need the Toddler Summer Program for the full 8 weeks.  If spots are available we will then consider shorter enrollment periods. If you need a shorter enrollment period, you should contact the office.

How will I be billed for the Toddler Summer Program?

Because tuition payments for the 2019-20 academic year begin in July, invoicing for the Toddler Summer Program will be divided into two equal payments that will be due in May and June.  You will receive a Tuition Statement as you do throughout the academic year.

If my child is enrolled in the Toddler Summer Program and turns 3 before August 12th (or is rising to the Early Childhood level for the 2019-20 school year), how do I enroll him/her in Summer Camp if I need care for the week of August 12th?

If you need care for your child during the week of August 12th when the Toddler Summer Program is not offered, and your child has turned 3 by August 12th (or is rising to the Early Childhood level for the 2019-20 school year), you may enroll him/her in our Summer Camp located in our After School facility.  Enrollment for Summer Camp began January 30th, and can be done through UltraCamp, which is a third party camp enrollment management site. You will need to set up an account and pay a one-time registration fee to UltraCamp in the amount of $6. You may access the UltraCamp registration page by going to our website, choose Parents then Parent Portal and follow directions.  Once established, your account will also be used for No-School Care days and Enrichment sign-ups when your child is in Early Childhood.  The Summer Camp spots fill quickly so if you know for sure that you will need these two weeks you should register as soon as possible after January 30th.
