MCHD Alumni: Where are they now?

MCHD alum, Ray Palma, is now a junior at Riverside High School and has coordinated “Meet​ ​Your​ ​2017​ ​Durham​ ​Mayoral Candidates​ ​to​ ​Discuss​ ​Their​ ​Vision​ ​for Youth​ ​in​ ​Durham.” He has been able to round up all five candidates running for Mayor of the City of Durham to be present for a Q&A on Monday, October 2nd at Riverside High School.

Picture Day is Monday, Oct. 2nd!

School Picture Day for Early Childhood through Elementary students will be Monday, October 2nd. Individual, Sibling and Class photos will be taken and will be available for order. Toddlers classes have a separate picture day scheduled later in the year.

International Peace Day

International Peace Day is Thursday, September 21st. In the classrooms, the children will be singing peace around the world, joining their voices with children in thousands of Montessori schools around the world.

No-School Camp Registration

No-school Camp is offered to all MCHD students (except Toddlers) on most Teacher
Workdays, Parent/Teacher Conference Days, and Spring break. The first No-School camp will be held on September 29th for the Teacher Workday. The deadline to register for this No-School camp is Tuesday, September 19th. Registrations can be made through the online parent portal.

The MCHD Calendar is a good resource for keeping track of NSC days. There is NO drop-in care on No-school Camp days. Space is reserved on a First-Come, First-Serve basis. Registrations received after the deadline will be placed on a wait-list.

Pasta Tuesday and Pizza Friday

Support the Upper Elementary trip to NYC for the Montessori Model United Nations with these beloved fundraisers:
Pasta Tuesdays (available to Elementary students) and Pizza Fridays (available to After School, Kindergarten, and Elementary students) are lunch fundraisers to support their spring trip. This school year, the registrations are for the full year (rather than by semester). Online registrations forms can be found in the Parnet Resources section of the website. MCHD All-School Fall Picnic

The MCHD Parents Association invites you to our All-School Fall Picnic at Little River Regional Park Picnic Shelter (301 Little River Park Way, Rougemont, NC 27572) on Sunday, September 10th from 3:30-5:30 p.m.

Please bring drinks for your family and a dish to share with the MCHD community (with serving utensil). Some picnic tables are at the park, but you may also bring lawn chairs and picnic blankets for seating in the grassy area. The Parents’ Association will provide plates, utensils & napkins. Gather your family and come visit with friends old and new!

Congratulations to our teachers on their summer professional development!

Tina completed her Infant and Toddler American Montessori Teacher Certification at the Barrie Institute for Advanced Montessori Studies. Jessie completed her Reading Strategies Endorsement and received her Hill Reading Achievement Program Certification through the Hill Center. Janine used her Teaching Enrichment Program grant to travel to Europe to study art and art history in order to supplement her curriculum. Teachers from each level (Viola, Jody, Chitra & Susannah) attended the TEACCH Autism Program (5-day classroom training)
