School Update re. COVID: June 30, 2020
I hope this finds all of you safe and well!
As previously communicated, I am sharing with you today our plans for the fall semester below. Our school calendars have been updated and are labeled as version 1 as we will share any future versions as needed. As always, thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue navigating COVID-19.
The MSD Administration and Teaching Teams have all been busy preparing for many different scenarios for the 2020-21 school year as well as the logistics for each of those scenarios. Today I write to share the highlights of those plans and preparations with you. While it is impossible to mitigate all risk relative to COVID-19, we believe returning to on-campus learning with the following safety measures and protocols represents an important first step in responsibly living with the virus.
We understand that each MSD family will make its own decision about the balance of risk as well as which learning option MSD provides is best for their children. The information contained herein and the forthcoming MSD COVID-19 Handbook will provide clarity around the practices and procedures MSD has established. These practices and procedures are meant to minimize exposure to our community, but in no way warrants that COVID-19 or other communicable disease infection will not occur through participation in our programs.
Please note we are aware that there are many conflicting recommendations and guidance relative to the virus. This communication highlights the recommendations that MSD has chosen to follow at this time, and the COVID-19 Handbook will provide greater detail. We ask that if you have questions about information shared in this communication that you wait until you read the COVID-19 Handbook as many questions will be answered in the details provided there.
The following contains a great deal of information, and I urge you to thoroughly review it and to file it away in order to refer back to it as needed until the COVID-19 Handbook is completed. The Handbook is a living document that will be emailed to you and will also be available on the COVID-19 page of our website. It may be updated from time-to-time based on changing circumstances and/or recommendations surrounding the virus. We will notify families when it is available, as well as when it is updated.
While we have planned multiple scenarios for the coming year as well as the necessary protocols and procedures, we know that the virus could throw us another curve ball at a moment’s notice that will necessitate making other plans, possibly before August. This means we will remain agile and pivot again if the need arises. I have shared with our Staff that the coming year will call for flexibility, patience, and collaboration, and I invite our families to join us in these efforts as we move forward in a planned and systematic way to return to campus.
We will continue to keep our families updated as necessary, and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone as your comfort level allows.
All the best,
