Fifty years ago, a small group of people believed Durham deserved a different kind of education — one rooted in Montessori Principles of independence, curiosity, and respect for the child. That belief became Montessori School of Durham.
None of what MSD is today happened by accident. It happened because parents showed up — to build, to fundraise, to serve on committees, to advocate. It happened because teachers and staff gave far more than a job description ever asked of them, year after year, generation of students after generation of students.
This anniversary belongs to all of them. To the founders and first group of parents. To the families and staff who came before us. To everyone who worked tirelessly, quietly, and consistently to make sure this school would still be here — for us, and for the families who haven't found MSD yet.
