Positions available:

Essential functions: The physical requirements to these positions, include but are not limited to picking up and carrying a child of minimum of 40 pounds, and mobility necessary to reach a child quickly in an emergency. Work will be conducted indoors and outdoors, and with animals of various kinds. Being on campus is an essential function of the job unless the school is mandated to move to remote learning. If remote learning becomes necessary, direction will be given at that time.

Toddler Teacher - Parental Leave Coverage

The Montessori School of Durham, an AMS-accredited, non-profit school in beautiful Durham, North Carolina, is seeking an experienced Montessori Infant and Toddler Teacher for parental leave coverage from August 2022 through May 2023. This coverage is for two established Toddler classrooms with experienced lead and assistant teachers. This is a part-time academic year position with opportunities for year-round employment. Applicants should possess: 

  • A passion for working with our youngest children;
  • Montessori classroom experience; 
  • A Montessori Infant/Toddler credential (AMS/AMI) is preferred;
  • A bachelor's degree is required, Early Childhood education or related field preferred;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • The ability to work respectfully with children, colleagues, and families;
  • The physical ability to sit on the floor, walk, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, and lift up to 30 pounds;
  • A commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment;
  • Technical fluency;
  • References and a criminal background check are required;
  • Proof of full vaccination against COVID-19, which includes a booster if eligible, is required.

Toddler Team Aide

Do you enjoy working with young children in a beautiful, well-prepared environment? The Montessori School of Durham is seeking a part-time Toddler Team Aide for our established Toddler program, working with children 15 months to 3 years of age. The person in this role will work closely with experienced Lead and Assistant Teachers to provide continuity of care for our youngest students. This is a part-time academic year position with opportunities for year-round employment. 

Experience working with children is required. Applicants must be responsible and willing to learn Montessori methods. Training is provided. Applicants should possess:

Daily Support Aide

Montessori School of Durham has an exciting job opportunity for a part-time, Daily Support Aide to work with diverse groups of children and adults, participating in a variety of activities around the school. Applicants should have the flexibility to work in many different classrooms during the day with children ranging in age from 15 months to 12 years, as well as in support of administration. Hours will be approximately 7:45 am to 1:30 pm, Monday through Friday. This is a part-time academic year position with opportunities for year-round employment. Montessori experience is preferred, but not required.

Applicants will need to:

  • Have the ability to work and communicate respectfully with children, colleagues, and families.
  • Physically engage with all ages of children. This will include getting up and down off the floor, particularly with our younger children.
  • Enjoy working with children on a variety of activities in the classroom, or in supportive roles on hikes or field trips with our older students. 
  • Be open to working in support of administrative staff.
  • Be willing to learn and follow directions relative to Montessori principles.
  • Provide references and agree to a criminal background check.

Early Childhood After School Assistants

Montessori School of Durham is seeking After School Assistants who will work with the Early Childhood age children. Responsibilities include: preparing and organizing activities inside and on the playground, supervising and engaging the children in after school activities and quiet rest/nap, and escorting children to on-campus Enrichment activities. The After School Assistants also work during the Summer, and on days that school is not in session when the After School Program offers camp days. These No School Camp dates require flexibility and availability for work outside the normal shift hours and can vary. Multiple work schedule options are available. Applicants must be punctual, reliable, professional, and nurturing. References, criminal background check, and being fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and a booster if eligible, is required. Experience working with children is required, and previous experience in a Montessori setting is preferred, but not required.

Montessori School of Durham is seeking Summer Camp Assistants who will work with children 3 years old - rising 7th grade. MSD camps are all Montessori-inspired programs that ignite passion and curiosity for lifelong learning while exploring the weekly theme. The success of the summer is all about our caring, dedicated, and energetic staff. Substitute Aide

Montessori School of Durham is seeking Substitute Aides for classrooms and Auxiliary programs for the 2021-2022 school year. Our school serves children from 15 months to 12 years old. A Substitute Aide would assist a lead teacher, a lead instructor from our After School program or Summer program, or an assistant teacher or instructor who is acting as the lead for the day. Multiple work schedule options are available. Applicants must be punctual, reliable, professional, nurturing, and willing to learn Montessori practices.
